Guide

Approach and anchoring

Wide open bay, approach clear of dangers by day. Sand and posidonia seagrass bottom, anchor only on sand patches to respect the protected meadows. Around 110 places between forain mooring and ecological buoys managed locally. VHF 9. Exposed to W and NW swell, shelter poor in Libeccio.

Practical

Village quay at Galéria hamlet 0.1 nm west with water. Restaurants, small grocer, bakery and diving club in the village. Port de Girolata 4.2 nm south, accessible only by sea or on foot.

Ashore

Sentier de la Mer from Galéria to Girolata along the coast of the réserve naturelle de Scandola, inscribed UNESCO World Heritage since 1983. The Fango valley behind the bay is classified biosphere reserve by UNESCO since 1977 for its Laricio pine forest.

History

Scandola, adjacent to the bay, became France's first combined land and sea nature reserve in 1975.
