Free transient floating dock at the entrance to Back Creek, on the north bank of the C&D Canal in Maryland.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Turn into Back Creek from the C&D Canal and the floating town dock is on the west side, by the town park. The basin is the only sanctioned anchorage along the canal. Best holding is near the eastern and northern banks of the basin, around the public launch ramp and the Army Corps headquarters. Watch the canal current and ship traffic when crossing.
Practical
Berthing is free for up to 24 hours on a first-come basis, April to October, with rafting permitted. Water is 10 USD and shore power 15 USD per stay; longer stays need approval from Town Hall on 410-885-5298. Anchoring in the basin is limited to 72 hours.
Ashore
The Chesapeake City Historic District is two streets inland from the dock, on the National Register. The C&D Canal Museum is 400 m west, set in the original 1837 pump-house, free entry. Pell Gardens and Schaefers Canal House restaurant sit beside the basin.
