Guide
Approach and anchoring
Fixed and floating dock at the foot of Church Street, easy to slide into straight off the ICW. Dockside depth is about 8ft and berths take vessels up to 100ft.
Practical
Ten transient berths for day or overnight stays, charged by the foot. Shore power and water on the dock, sewage pump-out, and free public WiFi. Reservations through the Swansboro dockmaster.
Ashore
The dock is in the heart of the Swansboro Historic District, within a block of the visitor centre and Olde Towne Square. The district holds 123 historic buildings, most dating from 1890 to 1925, with shops and restaurants along Front Street.
History
Swansboro was incorporated as a colonial port in 1783, named for Samuel Swann, speaker of the North Carolina House of Commons. Its early prosperity came from shipbuilding, including the Prometheus, the first steamboat built in North Carolina, by Captain Otway Burns.
