Large recreational harbour at Oxnard in Ventura County, southern California, set back from the Pacific behind an offshore breakwater.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach the harbour mouth between two jetties protected by an offshore breakwater. Both jetty ends and the breakwater carry lights, with a fog signal on the seaward end of the south jetty. Use the south-east entrance: the north-west entrance is subject to shifting sand and shoaling. Ventura County Harbor Patrol monitors VHF channel 12 for routine traffic and 16 for emergencies, 24 hours.
Practical
Nine marinas line the harbour with berths for around 2,150 boats, sizes from 24 to 60 ft and end-ties to 100 ft. Westport Marina lies 0.2 nm north and Seabridge Marina 0.2 nm east. Harbor Patrol is on duty year round.
Ashore
Hollywood Beach borders the harbour on its seaward side, reached on foot. The Channel Islands Maritime Museum and the Marine Emporium Landing shops sit on the waterfront. Channel Islands National Park lies about 20 nm offshore, reached by boat from the harbour.
