Approach and anchoring
Reach from the Moselle navigable channel between locks of Koenigsmacker and Apach. Commercial barge traffic runs day and night, keep to the right bank and signal passage on VHF 10. Mud and rock bottom, holding variable. Refuge at Nautic'Ham 2.1 NM to the SW.
Practical
No services on site. Diesel, water and power at Nautic'Ham base in Cattenom, 2.1 NM SW. Sierck-les-Bains river port lies 4.1 NM NE with visitor pontoon.
Ashore
Cattenom village at 1.5 km with bakery and grocery. Cattenom nuclear power plant cooling towers are visible from the river, active since 1986. Cycle route Charles le Temeraire EuroVelo 5 runs along the left bank.
History
The Moselle was canalised for large gauge inland shipping between 1958 and 1964 following the Luxembourg treaty, linking the Lorraine steel basin to the Rhine at Koblenz.
