Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south between steep white limestone cliffs. Fond of sand with patches of posidonia seagrass. The inlet is open to the south and exposed to SE winds and swell. Protection is good from NW through N to E. Port-Miou lies 0.6 NM to the NE, Cassis 1.4 NM to the NE.

Practical

Anchoring and mooring are prohibited in the calanque under the Parc national des Calanques regulations to protect the posidonia meadows. Short daytime stops are tolerated in specific conditions but overnight stay is not allowed. Nearest legal mooring is the ZMEL of Port-Miou.

Ashore

Sentier bleu footpath from the pebble beach climbs to the calanque of En-Vau in about 45 minutes. Cassis village is a 3 km walk along the coastal path. The pine forest overhanging the inlet gives the calanque its name.

History

The calanque has been part of the Parc national des Calanques since the park was created by decree in April 2012, the tenth national park of France and the first peri-urban national park in Europe.
