Approach and anchoring
Open roadstead with large tidal range typical of the Baie de Seine. Dries extensively at low water of spring tides. Enter on a rising tide with local knowledge of the sand banks off the Dives estuary.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port Guillaume at Dives-Cabourg-Houlgate lies 0.2 nautical miles E and has lock access, berths, water, diesel and shops. CN Franceville is 4.8 nautical miles W.
Ashore
Promenade Marcel Proust runs the length of the beach. The Grand Hôtel of 1907 and the villa Le Home date from the Belle Époque resort era. Casino, market on Wednesday and Saturday morning place du Marché, and shops along avenue de la Mer within 500 m of the seafront.
History
Cabourg was laid out as a seaside resort from 1853 in a fan plan centred on the Grand Hôtel. Marcel Proust stayed there regularly between 1907 and 1914 and transposed the town into the fictional Balbec of À la recherche du temps perdu.
