Approach and anchoring
Bayou Segnette runs into Lake Cataouatche at the head of the Barataria Estuary, a network of bayous and brackish lakes. The launch is part of Bayou Segnette State Park, off the Westbank Expressway. Bucktown and Orleans marinas on Lake Pontchartrain lie about 7 to 8 nm to the north.
Practical
State park boat launch with vehicle and trailer parking. The park has 100 campsites, 16 floating cabins and a wave pool. Park office on 504-736-7140.
Ashore
Bayou Segnette State Park offers walking trails through swamp and marsh. Anglers take bass, catfish, bream, redfish and trout in the surrounding waters, and the bayou is a starting point for kayaking into the Barataria wetlands.
