Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south on a clear bearing. Holding is mixed on sand and Posidonia; look for sand patches to drop the hook and avoid the seagrass. The bay is exposed to southerly and easterly swell. Shelter from NW through N to W by the steep shoreline cliffs rising towards the Grande Corniche.

Practical

No services at the anchorage. Port de Silva Maris at Cap d'Ail is 0.4 nm SW and Port de Beaulieu-sur-Mer 1.1 nm SW, both offering fuel, water and visitor berths.

Ashore

Footpath Nietzsche climbs from Èze-bord-de-Mer railway station to the medieval village of Èze at 429 m altitude, roughly 45 minutes on foot. Jardin exotique d'Èze at the top of the village. Villa Kérylos in Beaulieu is 1.5 km by coast road.

History

The village of Èze above the bay is documented from the 11th century as a Genoese stronghold. Friedrich Nietzsche wrote part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra while staying in Èze in 1883, and the footpath leading up from the shore now carries his name.
