Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the baie de Quiberon on a rising tide. Extensive drying sand and mud flats, with oyster tables to be given a wide berth. Max draught around 1.5 m near high water. Exposed to southerly winds; Port de Carnac at 1.2 NM SE offers shelter if it blows up.
Practical
No pontoon or services. Small slipway on the cove used by oyster boats. Shops, water and fuel at Port de Carnac, 1.2 NM SE. La Trinité-sur-Mer, 3.1 NM E, has the nearest full-service marina and boatyard.
Ashore
Sentier des douaniers GR34 runs along the cove and leads to the plage du Pô at 400 m and plage de Légenèse at 1.5 km. The Alignements de Carnac, standing stones inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025, begin at the site of Le Ménec at 2.5 km inland. Oyster farmers on the cove sell directly from their huts.
History
The baie de Quiberon shore has been used for oyster farming since the 19th century, and Carnac's megalithic alignments were raised around 4500 BC, making them among the oldest prehistoric sites in Europe.
