Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access from the Baie de Quiberon through the pass between Pointe de Kerbihan and Pointe de Men Er Bellec. The Crach river channel is buoyed with lateral marks. Swept depth around 1 m in the final approach at low water springs, so plan the last mile on a rising tide for deep-keeled boats. VHF 9.
Practical
Around 150 berths on pontoons, all tides. Diesel at the fuel berth, fresh water and shore power on pontoons, showers and WC at the capitainerie. Chandlery and small boatyard on site. Bakery and shops in the village at roughly 500 m.
Ashore
Carnac alignments of Menec, Kermario and Kerlescan lie 2 km north, more than 3,000 standing stones on a 4 km axis, visitor centre at the Maison des Mégalithes. Plage de Saint-Colomban beach at 1.5 km south. Coastal path GR34 runs along the Crach river estuary.
History
Carnac has been a fishing and oyster settlement on the Crach since the medieval period. The neolithic alignments nearby are dated between 4500 and 3300 BC and were documented in the 1870s by James Miln and Zacharie Le Rouzic, whose archaeological collection is shown at the Musée de Préhistoire in the village centre.
