River port on the right bank of the Saône at Tournus, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, with 10 berths.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach on the Saône between PK 97 and 98, downstream of the road bridge. Minimum depth around 2 m at the pontoon. Current usually under 2 kn outside floods. Halte fluviale de la Truchère lies 3.2 NM SE at the Seille confluence.
Practical
Ten berths on a floating pontoon, max draught 2 m, and depth at the pontoon can fall to about 1.70 m. Water and electricity on the quay, toilets ashore but no showers. The gendarmerie collects the fee, around 8 euros up to 10 m and about 10 euros for a 13 m boat, payable by app or in cash; the app needs a boat registration number, so foreign boats without one pay the officer directly, and water and power are included. There is no visitor rubbish collection, and berths are few, so arrive early. Auchan supermarket and restaurants are within 300 m, with a hardware shop one street back.
Ashore
Abbaye Saint-Philibert, one of the oldest Romanesque churches in France, stands 400 m from the quay. Musée Greuze at 500 m holds works by the 18th-century painter born in Tournus. Weekly market Saturday morning on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.
History
Tournus grew around the abbey founded in the 9th century to shelter the relics of Saint Philibert, transferred from Noirmoutier after Viking raids. The Romanesque nave dates from around 1020.
