Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south or east across the Bay of Cannes. Anchor off the beach in 4 to 10 m on sand, algae and mud, but the bottom shelves steeply and drops to 20 m just outside the swim buoys, so carry plenty of chain. Protected from NW through W to S by the Esterel cliffs, though the site funnels even a light westerly and is best treated as a fair-weather anchorage; some crews dragged in a 35 knot westerly. Exposed to easterly winds and swell. A marine farm has left cables and old chain on the bottom, and a marked channel leads to a visitor pontoon, contact the harbour office on VHF 9. Keep clear of the swim zones marked by yellow buoys from June to September, which leave room for only a few yachts, and expect wash from passing boats by day.

Practical

Water point at Port de Theoule, 0.3 NM W. Fuel at Port de la Rague, 0.6 NM NW. Two bakeries, a small Casino supermarket on the dear side, several restaurants and bars along the seafront, and a market on Fridays. Take the tender into Port de Theoule and ask for a pontoon to land, usually at no charge.

Ashore

Plage de Suveret and Plage d'Aiguille directly ashore. Coastal path along the Corniche de l'Esterel toward the Pointe de l'Aiguille departmental park, a protected natural site of red porphyry cliffs, entry 400 m south of the anchorage. Train station on the TER Mandelieu to Les Arcs line, 500 m from the beach. The restaurant Nino stands by the beach, with a small pontoon nearby used by a seasonal ferry.
