Guide

Approach and anchoring

Canal navigation only, no tide. Maximum draught 1,8 m on the reach. Speed limit 6 km/h. The next lock downstream is at Steinbourg itself and the chain of locks towards Saverne lies to the south.

Practical

Floating pontoons with about 15 places, though several are taken by permanent residents. Pay at a machine in three languages, with water and 16A electricity on the quay. Around 12 euros a night for a 12 to 15 m boat, electricity included. Bakery and small shop in Steinbourg village at 500 m. Saverne 2,4 M south-west for full provisioning and the Rohan castle quay.

Ashore

Plan Incliné de Saint-Louis-Arzviller boat lift 10 km west of Steinbourg, replacement of 17 locks by a single inclined plane opened in 1969. Vosges du Nord regional nature park begins a few kilometres west.
