Guide
Approach and anchoring
The buoys lie in 50 to 60 m of water within the Portofino marine protected area. Boats on them roll at night even in a slight swell, and ferries and tour boats send wash through by day. Exposed to the south.
Practical
Ten mooring buoys within the Portofino marine protected area. VHF 69. Register with the protected area and book the buoy online before arriving. In 2026 registration cost 16 euros for the season, and buoys were free from 6 pm to 10 am. Daytime use is charged. A 14 m boat paid 106 euros for 24 hours in June 2025. Boatmen tend the buoys. From 7 pm the jetty was free for tenders in 2024.
Ashore
Ashore stands the Benedictine abbey of San Fruttuoso, dating from the 10th to 13th centuries. The bronze Christ of the Abyss has lain on the seabed at 17 metres since 1954, a well-known dive. In 2024 the beach bar closed at 5.30 pm with the last ferry. The restaurants take bookings a day ahead. Wild boar and goats live ashore.
