Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry is from the north through a narrow cut in the reef, with swell breaking on both sides, so it needs settled weather. Inside, a winding channel of about 6 feet, under 2 metres, leads towards the mangroves. The bay is National Park water, with restrictions on transit and anchoring: check with the NPS on +1 340 773 1460.
Practical
Contact the marina on +1 340 778 9650 or office@saltrivermarina.com before arriving. Depths at the berths are not published, so confirm them with the office.
History
On 14 November 1493, during Columbus's second voyage, his fleet anchored off the Salt River inlet and a landing party went ashore. On the way back it clashed with a canoe of the island's inhabitants. The NPS describes it as the only known place where Columbus's men set foot on what is now US territory.
