Bay on the east side of Christiansted harbour on St. Croix, lined by the St. Croix Marine boatyard and the Gallows Bay port facility.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter Christiansted harbour from the north between Fort Louise Augusta and Round Reef, or by the deeper route round the west side of Round Reef. Cruising guides advise against a night entry, as some buoys are unlit. Sand bottom. Sheltered from north-east round through east and south to west, open to the north and north-west. Guides note that the east side of the harbour rolls in a northerly swell.
Practical
Gallows Bay is a designated mooring and anchoring area. DPNR requires an anchoring permit for recreational vessels that hold no mooring permit. Fuel, haul-out and chandlery are at St. Croix Marine on the shore.
