Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the Canal de l'Aisne à la Marne, through the lock at Reims. The canal is managed by Voies Navigables de France, with standard Freycinet gauge allowing vessels up to 38.5 m by 5.05 m. No tidal constraints. Air draught limited by fixed bridges along the canal.
Practical
Basic halt, fine for a single night. Mooring along the quay in about 2 m. The nearest fresh water is 50 m south of the lock and must be carried in cans. Town centre reachable on foot or by bike.
Ashore
Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims, a UNESCO World Heritage site and coronation church of the French kings, stands about 2 km from the halt. Basilique Saint-Remi and its abbey museum lie 2.5 km south. Champagne cellars of Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot are within 3 km of the canal banks.
History
Reims was the coronation city of 33 French kings between 816 and 1825. The Canal de l'Aisne à la Marne, opened in 1866, links the Aisne at Berry-au-Bac to the Marne at Condé-sur-Marne and crosses the Champagne vineyards.
