Anchorage in the bay of La Sciumara near Palau in northern Sardinia, sand bottom, sheltered from W through SE and open to the north. Sandy beach at the head of the bay.

Approach and anchoring

Swimming buoys cover much of the sand. Anchor close outside them, best on the east side, in 4 to 10 m. Weed also covers parts of the bottom. An uncharted submarine cable from La Maddalena crosses the bay to a small white building ashore. Keep clear of the sailing school lane to the beach. Westerly and southerly winds are well blocked. Wakes from yachts in the channel roll through by day. After heavy rain the river can carry polluted water into the bay.

Practical

Dinghies land on the beach or at the old jetty of Camping Acapulco. A water tap with good pressure stands at a corner of the beach next to the car park. Palau centre is about 850 m from the campsite. A supermarket is 20 to 30 minutes' walk. In Palau, dinghies can lie at the nautical pontoon beside the ferries. Ferries run to La Maddalena. Buses reach Olbia airport in about 90 minutes.
