Approach and anchoring

The bay is large, with room to anchor in 5 to 8 m on sand, weed and some mud. Flat land to the west lets the wind through, but the water stays flat. One anchor held in gusts up to 45 kn in 2025. That year an anchor dragged in soft mud above 25 kn of westerly, then held after re-anchoring off Portu Mannu. A submerged buoy, hard to see, and an area of rocky debris lie in the anchorage.

Practical

Buoys in 4.5 m cost 50 euros a night in 2025, and were gone by late October. A buoyed lane leads tenders to the campsite beach and dock. The campsite has a small supermarket, closed from 13:00 to 16:30, a kiosk and a restaurant. Its shop stocked only small disposable gas cartridges in 2026.

Ashore

Roccia dell'Orso on Capo d'Orso is about 20 minutes on foot from Spiaggia di Portu Mannu, where tenders land. Entry cost 3 euros a person in 2025, with set opening hours. In 2026 the trails inside the park were overgrown and the old fort was closed. A path leads out to the lighthouse, with a view over the channel to La Maddalena. Most roads and paths on the north side of the bay appeared private in 2026.
