Approach and anchoring

Access on the Saône through Chalon-sur-Saône. Moor along the quay on the town side; the inside of the pontoon is for pleasure craft and the outside is kept for hotel barges, and it can take large units. The water here is shallow with a soft bottom, and a 1.6 m draught has touched, so sound in. Watch for wash from passing commercial traffic and from speedboats at weekends.

Practical

Two berths along the quay. A self-service machine takes payment for the berth, water and electricity, but the supply is often out of order and short stays of up to 12 hours are sometimes free; a code from the machine gives access back onto the pontoon. Halte nautique de Chalon-sur-Saône at 0.3 NM south for fuller services, halte de Fragnes at 3.2 NM north.

Ashore

Old town of Chalon-sur-Saône at the top of the quay within 300 m. Musée Nicéphore Niépce devoted to the inventor of photography about 400 m from the quay. Cathédrale Saint-Vincent around 500 m inland.
