Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east, the entrance open between the two headlands with no hazards in the mouth, the bay shoaling gradually inshore. The quieter northern side under Punta di Rondinara holds up better in N and NE winds. Anchor in 3 to 6 m, but the bottom here is sand dotted with rounded stones and posidonia rather than clean sand, so pick out a sand patch in the clear water before setting; holding is good once the anchor bites, and the rounded stones do not foul the chain. Exposed to E and SE, which push a short swell inside; in a libeccio the southern lobe under Punta di Capo Rosso gives the better lee.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. A mini-market at the campground on the hill behind the bay is about a 15 to 20 minute walk up a path from the dinghy landing, and it will deliver an order down to the dock if asked. The main Rondinara beach across the isthmus has a seasonal beach bar and restaurant. Sant'Amanza lies 4 NM SW for firmer shelter, Bonifacio 6.5 NM SW for fuel, water and full provisioning.
Ashore
Beach of fine white sand backed by low dunes and maquis. A path over the isthmus reaches the main Rondinara beach in about 200 m, busier and backed by the beach bar Chez Ange, which sits above the sand with a view over the bay. The coastal path links Rondinara to the Réserve Naturelle des Bouches de Bonifacio further south.
Story
Rondinara is regularly listed among the most photographed bays of southern Corsica and sits inside the perimeter of the Réserve Naturelle des Bouches de Bonifacio, where anchoring is regulated on posidonia.
