Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south-east, leaving the rocks off Punta di Sprono to the south and the Cavallo and Lavezzi islands further east. The bottom is a mix of sand and rock, so pick a clear sand patch and swim the anchor to be sure of the set; holding is good once dug in, at 4 to 10 m. Sheltered from NW, N, W and SW, well protected in a strong westerly, but exposed to the SE Libeccio rebound and to easterlies, in which boats have dragged.
Practical
Mouillage forain on sand, good holding, one of the largest fair-weather anchorages of the Bouches de Bonifacio. Small harbour of Sant'Amanza 0,2 NM SE for water and a seasonal fuel service. Bonifacio 2,8 NM SW for full provisioning.
Ashore
Dinghy landing on the sand beaches of the bay, in particular Plage de Maora on the west side and Plage de Balistra at the head. Beach restaurants line the shore, among them Maora Beach and La Bohème, on the dear side, with a dinghy pontoon for landing. Bonifacio is about an hour on foot. The Bouches de Bonifacio marine reserve lies immediately south and includes the Îles Lavezzi, reachable by tender in settled weather.
