River marina of 40 berths on the Moselle in central Metz, Grand Est.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the canalised Moselle, CEMT class Vb. Charted at 1.5 m, the river and basin usually hold nearer 2 m, but the short channel leading off the main river can shoal, so sound the way in with a draught much over 1.5 m. Air draught at the bridges is about 5 m. The river through Metz is split by the Île du Saulcy. Follow the navigation channel indicated by the buoyage. Locks upstream and downstream are operated by Voies navigables de France. Berth stern-to at the visitors' pontoon.
Practical
Forty berths with water and electricity, but only a few for visitors, so call ahead as they fill in summer. The gate code comes from the harbourmaster, who may not be on hand before 17:00. Electricity is metered at 0.6 euro per kWh and water costs 1 euro for 150 litres. Showers, a launderette and fresh toilets on site. The port sits next to the Plan d'Eau, by the city centre. Shops, the cathedral Saint-Étienne and Metz-Ville SNCF station are within walking distance.
Ashore
Centre Pompidou-Metz at about 1 km from the port. Cathedral Saint-Étienne with its stained glass by Marc Chagall in the old town at 900 m. Esplanade gardens along the Moselle next to the port. A restaurant called Le Bouillon a short walk away serves good traditional French cooking and is best booked ahead.
