Fishing harbour and town quay of Deshaies, in the north-west of Basse-Terre, at the head of the bay where yachts lie on buoys or at anchor.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Deep bay open to the west, sheltered from the trade winds but exposed to northerly swell, which can make it uncomfortable. Gusts come down off the high ground near the cliffs. Entry and anchoring by night are allowed. Navily gives 15.5 m and 2.3 m draught as limits at the quay.
Practical
Berthing at the quay only when there is room. Water at 4.50 euros per m³ and shore power at 1.50 euros per kWh, fuel also at the quay. Boats can stay up to 5 days alongside for repair work. 32 paying buoys in the bay. No laundry in the village.
Ashore
The Jardin botanique de Deshaies, a 7 ha estate once owned by the comedian Coluche and opened as a garden in 2001, is on the hill above the village. Grande Anse beach starts 1 nm north.
Story
Deshaies has been the main filming location of the BBC series Death in Paradise since 2011, playing the fictional town of Honoré. The presbytery of the village church serves as the police station.
