Port De Cran
- Type
- Harbour
River port on the Vilaine in Saint-Dolay, Morbihan, on the estuarine section upstream of the Arzal dam.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Inland stretch of the Vilaine, freshwater above the Arzal lock. Pass the Arzal barrage by the lock, operated by the EPTB Vilaine, then navigate about 13 nm upriver. No tidal constraint above the dam. Channel marked. The port lies just downstream of the Cran swing bridge and is mostly used to wait for it to open on the way up to Redon. Call the bridge keeper on VHF 10; opening times are limited and have at times been cut to once a day during works, so confirm the schedule before counting on a passage.
Practical
A single pontoon of about twenty berths, a quay and a few moorings, managed by the Port du Foleux. It is free or very cheap, with a maximum of 72 hours alongside the wall. There are no services on site; a shower and toilet block is under construction and looks set to serve berth holders only. No shops within walking distance, so provision before arriving.
Ashore
Rieux village is 1.6 nm upstream, with restaurants along the quay. Redon, 4.3 nm north, is a confluence town between the Vilaine, the Oust and the Canal de Nantes à Brest, with the Romanesque abbey church of Saint-Sauveur from the 11th century.
