Approach and anchoring

Access from the sea via the Arzal dam lock, which operates to a published timetable. From the lock, follow the marked channel up the Vilaine. The river is fresh water above Arzal. Maximum draught of 4 metres allows most cruising yachts. Call Foleux on VHF 9 for berth allocation.

Practical

Around 400 berths on pontoons plus visitor places, with cheaper visitor buoys just downstream but no services on them. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Fuel, sanitary block with showers, and the well-regarded La Cale de Neptune boatyard with travel lift on site. The office lends bikes for the 20 to 25 minute run to the shops, as Foleux itself has little beyond its waterside restaurant; restock at Béganne, Nivillac or La Roche-Bernard.

Ashore

The bar-restaurant L'Escale de Foleux by the water puts on concerts on Thursday evenings in season, when a farmers' market also sets up on the port. Towpath along the Vilaine for walking and cycling. La Roche-Bernard and its old town sit about 3.6 nautical miles downstream, reachable by dinghy or by road, with shops, restaurants and a weekly market. Regional nature park of the Brière marshes lies within 25 km by car.
