Oyster and yachting harbour of 172 berths on the north shore of the étang de Thau, Hérault.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Inside the étang de Thau, reached from the sea via the Sète canals and the Onglous pass. Shallow étang throughout, maximum draught 1.6 metres at the port. Watch for oyster tables marked by poles around the bay. Boats too deep for the harbour can anchor off Bouzigues, which stays workable in most conditions. VHF 9.
Practical
172 berths split between the old quay and the pontoon basin. Water and electricity on pontoons. Sanitary block with showers. Bakery, grocery and fishmonger in the village within 200 m.
Ashore
Musée de l'étang de Thau on the oyster-farming heritage, 150 m from the port. Seafront tasting cabins for Bouzigues oysters and mussels along the quay. GR 653 Via Tolosana passes through the village.
History
Bouzigues has given its name to the oysters farmed in the étang de Thau since the 1920s, when Louis Tudesq adapted the Arcachon rope-growing method to the lagoon.
