Tidal oyster port at the mouth of the Leyre on the eastern shore of the Bassin d'Arcachon, with 153 berths.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the buoyed channel of the Leyre delta, passable only around high water. A shallow-draught boat should aim to enter within about two hours either side of high water, no more than that for a draught of 0.6 m. Bottom is soft mud, most berths dry at low water. Watch the oyster park markers on both sides of the channel. Night entry not advised.
Practical
153 berths managed by the municipality, mainly for local craft with some visitor berths. Water on the pontoons, slipway for trailerable boats. No fuel at the port. Shops, bakery and supermarket in Biganos village at about 1,5 km.
Ashore
Delta de la Leyre nature reserve starts at the harbour entrance, with marked walking trails through the tidal marsh. Parc Ornithologique du Teich at 3 km by road, one of the main bird reserves of the French Atlantic coast. Oyster shacks serving on the quay in season.
