Deep-water marina at Saint-Quay-Portrieux on the Côtes-d'Armor coast, 1,030 berths accessible at all states of tide.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the NE between Les Hors and Madeux buoyed shoals, keeping a careful watch on the chart for the many islands and rocks off the entrance. Entrance lit at the tip of the two breakwaters, safe at all tides thanks to a minimum 3.5 m depth in the basin, though NE winds send some swell inside. Staff meet arrivals on a tender and hand the lines, with visitors usually alongside on pontoon 7 where a welcome hut handles information and payment. Watch for strong tidal streams off Cap d'Erquy when coming from the E. VHF 9.

Practical

1,030 berths on pontoons, fuel berth with diesel and petrol, water and electricity on all pontoons, sanitary blocks with showers, boatyard with travel lift. Capitainerie open year-round, with reasonable rates, around 50 euros for a 16 m boat, cheaper than the Channel Islands. Electric bikes for hire from the office, and a public launderette sits behind the harbour restaurants. Shops, restaurants and supermarket within the Saint-Quay old town 700 m south. Saint-Brieuc station is about 30 minutes away by bus for crew changes.

Ashore

GR34 coastal path passes the breakwater, leading N to Plage du Casino 400 m away and S to Plage de la Comtesse at 1 km. Scallop fishing port with daily catch auction next to the marina. Bars and restaurants line the marina and rue Clemenceau, which fills with music at weekends, with a good bakery nearby and the Arletty cinema a 10 minute walk. Casino and seafront promenade in the centre at 700 m.
