Guide

Approach and anchoring

Mixed bottom of sand, rock and weed, holding variable, repeated setting sometimes required. Numerous mooring buoys have been laid and leave little room to anchor; those marked with a small orange float are reserved. Shelter from west through southwest and northwest winds behind the island, exposed to easterlies, and the anchorage rolls with a northerly and with the wash of ferry and boat traffic to Le Palais. A useful place to wait for the tide and the opening of the Palais gate. Approach from the north keeping clear of the rocks off the pointe.

Practical

Water available ashore. No other services at the mooring itself. The buoys are run by the Le Palais harbour office, which charges around 13 to 16 euros a night, with a shuttle ashore and access to the port showers; the ferry sounds its horn through the day and part of the night. Le Palais at 0.3 nautical miles offers full facilities, fuel, provisioning and the ferry terminal to Quiberon. Sauzon marina at 3.4 nautical miles to the northwest.

Ashore

Citadelle Vauban at Le Palais, rebuilt by Vauban from 1683, open to visitors. GR 340 Tour de Belle-Île coastal path starts from the port. Bicycles and scooters for hire in town, a practical way to reach the Côte Sauvage on the western side of the island.
