Approach and anchoring

Anchor on sand in 4 to 8 metres at the head of the cove. Sheltered from W, NW, SW, S, SE and E winds by the cliffs of the island, fully exposed to the N and NE with swell rolling in from the Quiberon passage. Approach by day only, no lights, keep off the rocks on either headland. A few white buoys are laid and kept up by local users and are not meant for visitors; they lie in shallow water, so boats over 1.5 m draught should be wary, above all at the outermost one. Submarine cables are reported in the cove and anchoring may be restricted, so check the chart before letting go.

Practical

No services at the cove itself. Sauzon harbour lies 1.3 NM W with visitor moorings, water and a fuel berth at the pontoon. Le Palais is 1.8 NM SE, the main port of the island with full services and daily ferry from Quiberon.

Ashore

GR 340 coastal path, the sentier côtier of Belle-Île, passes above the cove and links to the Pointe des Poulains lighthouse 2 km NW, former home of the actress Sarah Bernhardt. Sauzon village with its painted harbour houses is a 30 minute walk along the path.
