Approach and anchoring

Approach from the E out of Le Guilvinec or from the W out of Penmarc'h, watching for dense pot buoys even along the marked channel. The coast is fringed with drying rocks and the swell sets onshore in any southerly, with some send working in from the west. Two marine farms lie off the beach, so anchor clear of the active one. The sand holds well, best sheltered in the NW corner. Daylight approach only, mind the fishing fleet in and out of Le Guilvinec.

Practical

No services at the mooring. Le Guilvinec-Léchiagat 1.3 nm E offers a full marina with water, electricity, fuel and chandlery. Penmarc'h 1.8 nm W for shops and fuel.

Ashore

The Phare d'Eckmühl, commissioned in 1897 and standing 65 m tall at Saint-Pierre on the Pointe de Penmarc'h, is open to visitors and climbs to a panoramic platform. The daily auction at Le Guilvinec starts around 16:30 when the langoustine boats return and can be watched from the Haliotika viewing gallery.
