Fishing harbour on the Pays Bigouden coast, with a plaisance basin of around 290 berths on the Léchiagat side opposite the main trawler quays.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance between Men Crenn and Men Meur rocks, buoyed channel aligned on the church steeple of Léchiagat. Breaking seas in onshore winds from SW to W over Force 5. On weekdays pleasure craft may not enter between about 16:00 and 18:30 so as not to foul the returning trawlers. Maximum draught 2.7 m at the visitors pontoon. VHF 12 for the harbour office.
Practical
Visitor space is limited to about eight berths on two small pontoons, often taken by locals, so call ahead; the harbour master also runs Lesconil and may send boats there. Multihulls are not accepted unless folded. Water and electricity on the pontoons, diesel on the fuel berth, boatyard with a 35 t travel hoist, but the sanitary facilities are basic and a refit is due in October 2026. Bakery, supermarket and chandlery within 400 m.
Ashore
Return of the trawler fleet every weekday afternoon at the criée is a fixed point of the visit, with a viewing gallery at Haliotika above the fish auction 300 m from the pontoons and a fishmonger behind it. A market fills the quay on Sunday mornings. Coastal footpath GR34 runs east to Lesconil at 2.5 M and west to the Saint-Pierre lighthouse at Penmarch at 3.1 M.
History
Le Guilvinec grew from a small cove into the leading French artisanal fishing port during the twentieth century, specialising in langoustine trawling in the Bay of Biscay.
