Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Strait of Bonifacio, watching the Perduto and Lavezzi rocks east of the anchorage, all marked, and the rocks that rise from about 4 m close inshore where boats have grounded. Sand bottom, good holding in around 5 m. Sheltered from W through N to NW and SW, exposed to E and SE swell. Tour boats and ferries pass close all day and set up a tiring roll that eases only in the evening. A heavy ground chain lies on the bottom off the sandbank.
Practical
Anchorage only, no services. The Sperone golf course and private estate are ashore, landing on the beach only, no access to the golf property. Sant'Amanza 2.1 NM N and Bonifacio 2.9 NM NW for refuge and supplies.
Ashore
White-sand beach adjoining the Domaine de Sperone golf course, 18 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr in 1989. A shallow sandbank runs across to Ile Piana, walkable in knee-deep water to a small islet where gulls nest in spring, though tenders may not pass the yellow buoys around it. A lovers' grotto and rock tunnel lie about 50 m west by SUP or tender. The Reserve naturelle des Bouches de Bonifacio covers the waters east to the Lavezzi islands, a granite archipelago with the cemetery of the 1855 Semillante wreck.
