Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south with the Espiguette lighthouse as landmark. Anchor on sand seaward of the beach in 4 to 5 m; a narrow strip close inshore shoals to as little as 0.6 m, so stay well out, as dragging onto it at night is a real risk. Holding is good but shelter is limited to N and NE, and the anchorage is open to S and SE swell, so shift north to Port Camargue if a marin sets in. A seaplane restricted zone lies off the Port Camargue channel entrance, and the current runs strongly close to the beach.

Practical

Port Camargue lies 2.2 NM north and Le Grau-du-Roi 3.3 NM north. No services ashore at the beach itself.

Ashore

The dune system of l'Espiguette stretches over 10 km and is a protected site of the Conservatoire du Littoral, with no buildings along the beach. The Espiguette lighthouse, built in 1869, stands behind the dunes.
