Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north through a buoyed channel across the outer bay of La Clarté. The outer harbour is accessible at all tides; the inner basin lies behind a tidal gate that opens roughly HW plus or minus 2h 30. A strong current runs through the gate for the first quarter hour after it opens, so wait for it to ease, using the five waiting buoys off the Pointe du Château. Maximum draught 2.5 metres in the floating basin. Watch for rocks west of the Pointe du Château. Call the harbour on VHF 9.
Practical
577 berths with visitor pontoons in the floating basin. Water, electricity and diesel at the fuel berth. Rates are on the high side in season, with a third night free, and much lower out of season. Showers, WC and laundry on site, though the block is small and dated. Fresh fish is sold at the port from Tuesday to Saturday. The town centre and supermarket are up the hill, reached on foot in 15 to 20 minutes or by a summer minibus for 1.50 euros.
Ashore
The GR34 sentier des Douaniers starts at Trestraou beach 700 metres from the marina and runs 6 km along the pink granite coast to Ploumanac'h. Plage de Trestrignel at 400 metres. A market fills the Quai de la Douane by the port on Wednesdays in summer. Boat trips to the Sept-Îles nature reserve leave from the town quay, home to 22,000 seabird pairs including the only French puffin colony.
History
Perros-Guirec grew as a seaside resort from the 1880s when the railway reached Lannion. The marina was built in 1985 on the site of the old commercial quay that once handled granite shipments from the Ploumanac'h quarries.
