Anchorage on the Étang de Thau off Marseillan, weed bottom, sheltered from SW, W and NW winds.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enclosed lagoon entered from the sea through the canal at Les Onglous on the western tip. Depths of 4 to 10 metres across the étang, shoals along the shores. Holding is variable and often poor on the weed, several tries may be needed, and it is wise to move off in more than about 10 knots as the tramontane can build hard over the lagoon. Oyster and mussel tables marked, keep clear of the table zones shown on SHOM chart 7094.
Practical
Tabarka pontoon 0.3 M to the NW, Port de Marseillan Ville 0.3 M to the W, both with berths and basic services. Village of Marseillan within walking distance for shops and market.
Ashore
Maison Noilly Prat in the village, 400 m from the quay, cellars open to visitors since 1813. Oyster and shellfish tasting huts along the étang at Bouzigues and Mèze. Canal du Midi reaches the étang at Les Onglous lighthouse, 2 km west.
