Sand anchorage off the mouth of the Solenzara river, on the east coast of Corsica.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east in settled weather. Anchor on sand in 3 to 6 m opposite the beach and campsite, keeping off the river-mouth dike where the bottom shoals. Watch the seabed in the middle of the bay, where pipes, timber and iron bars lie in about 5 m and even a car has been reported around 400 m out, and rocks and shallows lie close to the northern harbour breakwater. Shelter from NW, W, SW and S, exposed to the E and NE; the libeccio blows off the land but an east swell rolls in. The river mouth silts and is not navigable for keelboats.
Practical
Port de plaisance de Solenzara 0.4 nm south takes visitors, with water, diesel, a chandlery, a boatyard and staff on VHF 9, and rubbish can be dropped there. Marina di Fiori 16 nm south for a longer hop.
Ashore
Village of Solenzara along the D168, with supermarket, bakery and restaurants within 500 m of the port. Fighter jets from the nearby Solenzara airbase often train overhead. The Bavella needles and the GR20 trailhead at Col de Bavella lie 30 km inland by the D268.
