Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchoring is forbidden in this area due to the commercial ferry channel serving the port of Île-Rousse and to the protection of posidonia seagrass beds. Vessels must clear the sector and use the designated anchorages or the port itself. Refer to the SHOM chart and the local prefectoral order for exact boundaries.
Practical
No anchoring permitted. Bottom is mixed sand, rock and posidonia, which is protected under Corsican regulation. Use Port Ile-Rousse, 0.2 NM SE, or Port Eugène Ceccaldi at Calvi, 5.2 NM SW, for overnight shelter.
Ashore
Île-Rousse, founded in 1758 by Pascal Paoli as a trading port for the Balagne, lies immediately east. The covered market built in 1850 opens every morning on Place Paoli, and the Île de la Pietra is linked to the town by a 200 m causeway. Its lighthouse can be reached by tender for a wide view over the coast.
