Anchorage behind Île Noire in the Bay of Morlaix, northern Brittany, between Carantec and the Plougasnou peninsula.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north through the Chenal de Tréguier or from the east past Pointe de Primel. Lighthouse on Île Noire built in 1835, still a useful daymark. Bottom sand with patches of weed, holding good and confirmed in winds over 17 knots. Anchor lined up between the Île Noire lighthouse and the red Morlaix channel buoy, where the island gives a lee from a fresh westerly and little swell works in. Sheltered from NE and E; the chart shows the area open to the north and west.
Practical
Anchorage only, no buoys or services. Port-Diben to the NE at 3.3 nm has a drying quay and limited supplies. Port de plaisance de Roscoff-Bloscon at 4.5 nm to the NW for fuel, water and a chandlery.
History
The Île Noire lighthouse was commissioned in 1835 as part of the lighting of the Morlaix bay approaches. It appears on a 1997 painting by French artist Tanguy Dohollau of Morlaix seascapes.
