Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the gulf from SE. The southern field sits closer to Punta di Folaca, giving better shelter from west and NW than the northern field, and lies open to the east in an onshore swell. Sand and weed bottom. Anchoring is banned in season and a buoy is compulsory, though anchoring is tolerated out of season. Book a buoy by phone ahead of arrival, as calls on VHF 9 often go unanswered, and staff help pick it up. By day jet skis and motorboats churn the bay from early morning until about 7pm, when it falls quiet. Porto-Vecchio lies 4 NM north, and Porto Novo gives a free anchorage about 2 NM south.
Practical
30 buoys with water, and rubbish taken ashore, but no other services. A buoy is charged separately by day and by night and runs high in season, commonly 55 to 110 euros for a night afloat depending on length. Payment is cash or bank transfer. The fee includes a shuttle to the beach and to the grocery dock, generally once a day. Tender landing on Plage de Santa Giulia opposite the Moby Dick hotel.
Ashore
Southern end of Plage de Santa Giulia, 1.5 km of sand. The Moby Dick hotel restaurant stands behind the beach by the landing. Coastal path south to the creeks of Carataggio and on towards Golfe de Rondinara over roughly 6 km. Porto-Vecchio old town 9 km by road.
