Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south-east after clearing the Îles Lavezzi and entering the Golfe de Sant'Amanza. Round the headland at a distance to avoid a rocky shoal off its south-western tip. Depths of 5 to 10 metres over firm sand close to the shore, with good holding that has ridden out the Mistral at 35 knots. Tuck in under the cliffs for the best shelter from the west. Large white mooring buoys for big yachts lie further out, several of them unlit, so approach with care after dark.

Practical

Room to anchor on sand plus about ten large mooring buoys, apparently free, otherwise no services. Protected from NW through W to SW, exposed to the E and SE which funnel into the gulf. Mobile and 4G coverage is weak. A supply boat comes round with bread and pastries in the morning. Port de Sant'Amanza lies 1.5 NM S for water and a small shop, Bonifacio is 3.9 NM SW.

Ashore

A wartime bunker stands above the beach and a saltwater lagoon lies behind it. The Maora beach club can be reached by tender, and a taxi from there to Bonifacio runs to about 30 euros.
