Andancette
- Maximum length
- 65 ft
Small river halt on the left bank of the Rhône, opposite Andance, between Vienne and Valence.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access from the Rhône, PK 73; the navigation channel runs along the opposite bank. The floating pontoon sits just upstream of the Andance suspension bridge, clearance around 10 m above high water, and really takes one boat, a second lying alongside, up to around 20 m. Sound in, as depth at the pontoon runs about 2 to 4 metres. It takes wash from passing traffic and lies lively, and the current under the bridge runs hard at times.
Practical
Free halt with no water, electricity or fuel. Bakery and small grocery within 300 m in the village, a restaurant about 500 m. Railway station at Saint-Rambert-d'Albon 3 km across the river with direct trains to Valence and Lyon.
Ashore
The Marc Seguin suspension bridge linking Andancette to Andance, built in 1827, was the first cable suspension bridge opened to traffic in continental Europe, the original structure was replaced in 1978 but the piers remain. A small riverside park with picnic tables sits at the top of the launch ramp by the pontoon. Wine tasting at the Saint-Joseph appellation cellars along the right bank of the Rhône.
History
The two villages of Andancette and Andance developed on either bank as a Rhône ferry crossing until the Seguin brothers opened their pioneering suspension bridge, a prototype for the later Pont de la Mulatière in Lyon.
