Buzzards Bay harbours: Onset, Marion, New Bedford and Padanaram

The mainland shore of Buzzards Bay, across from the Elizabeth Islands, has a sheltered harbour every few miles. Onset and Wareham at the mouth of the Cape Cod Canal, Marion at the head of Sippican Harbor, Mattapoisett, then New Bedford, the top US fishing port by value, behind a hurricane barrier with a 150 foot gap. Padanaram and the Slocums River to the west, Red Brook Harbor and Bassetts Island on the Cape side. The south-westerly fills in by midday at 10 to 15 knots, gusting 20, and the chop builds towards the canal.
