Guide

Approach and anchoring

Enter from Buzzards Bay between Barneys Joy Point and Mishaum Point. The Slocums River is a shallow tidal river, so sound the approach and stay on the rising tide. The bottom is mud and weed, giving moderate holding. Open from north-west through north to east, with shelter from west and east winds.

Ashore

Demarest Lloyd State Park protects the west bank at the river mouth, with a sand beach and salt marsh. Slocum's River Reserve, co-managed by the Trustees of Reservations and the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, has walking trails over open fields above the river.
