Round the cape by its harbours: Provincetown at the tip of the arm, sheltered from all but the south-west, Wellfleet and Barnstable on the bay side, then the Cape Cod Canal, 11 km with a 4 knot stream, into Buzzards Bay. On the south shore, Hyannis, Osterville, Cotuit and Falmouth, and Woods Hole with a pass to take at slack water. A 3 metre tide on the north side, 1 metre on the south.
