Approach and anchoring
Crossing the Columbia River Bar from the Pacific requires close attention to tide and swell and pilotage advice on VHF 13 from the bar pilots station. From the bar, the basin is 14 miles up-river. Strong ebb currents in the channel.
Practical
335 berths plus side-tie capacity over 400 boats, transient berths on a first-come basis. Fuel berth open 0830 to 1630 daily, marina office 0800 to 1700. Showers, heads, snack store with ice.
Ashore
Astoria Riverwalk runs from the marina past the Columbia River Maritime Museum, 0.7 miles east. Restaurants and shops in downtown Astoria within 5 minutes on foot. Fort Stevens State Park 9 miles west.
History
Astoria was founded in 1811 by John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company as the first United States settlement on the Pacific coast. The Columbia River Bar Pilots service has guided ships across the entrance since 1846.
