Approach and anchoring
The boatyard lies at about river mile 13, near the mouth of the Columbia, west of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. The bottom is mud. The Columbia carries strong tidal current and the spot is open to winds from most directions except the NW.
Practical
The Port of Astoria boatyard at Pier 3 runs an 88-ton travel lift, a wash-down system and upland storage. Haul-out reservations are required by phone with the boatyard supervisor, Monday to Friday. DIY space and on-site marine repair businesses are available. The West Mooring Basin, with fuel and moorage, is about 5 nm to the west.
