Approach and anchoring
Access through the main entrance of the Vieux-Port between the Fort Saint-Jean and the Fort Saint-Nicolas. Mistral from NW funnels into the basin. Harbour master of the Vieux-Port on VHF 9. SNPPP and Nautic Club du Vieux-Port pontoons lie 0.1 NM SE in the same basin.
Practical
One hundred berths for members, max draught 2.4 m. Water and electricity on the pontoons. No dedicated fuel berth at the club, fuel station in the Vieux-Port nearby. Showers and sanitary block at the clubhouse. City centre and métro Vieux-Port within 300 m.
Ashore
Quai du Port and Quai de Rive Neuve restaurants along the basin. MuCEM and Fort Saint-Jean 600 m west at the harbour entrance. Le Panier historic district 500 m north. Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica 1.2 km south on its hill.
History
The Vieux-Port has been Marseille's harbour since the Greek foundation of Massalia around 600 BC. The two forts at the entrance, Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas, were built by Louis XIV after 1660 to control the rebellious city after the uprising of 1658.
